THERMATRX MICROWAVE THERAPY

I am offering a therapy for the treatment of enlarged prostate.  It is microwave thermotherapy, called Thermatrx, an exciting new treatment that offers an alternative to drugs and surgery.

This therapy, which uses microwave heat to treat the prostate, is not a surgical procedure.  The procedure does not require general anesthesia; you will be awake for the duration. Before the procedure you will be given a mild sedative and pain reliever. You will be in my office for approximately 2 hours and would be able to go home immediately afterward. You will need someone to drive you to and from your appointment however.

After instilling a local anesthetic, I will pass a small catheter through your urethra into your bladder. This catheter contains a microwave antenna which delivers heat only to the prostate gland. The antenna is attached to the microwave generator to allow heat to be delivered. The application lasts approximately one hour.

After the procedure you will need a catheter for one to three days while the prostate heals. You should plan to rest during this time. Once the catheter is removed, you may begin to resume your normal activities. Complete healing will take 6 to 12 weeks and you will gradually notice improvement in your BPH symptoms.

If you would like to learn more, please call our office at 610-296-0810 for a preliminary screening.  We can also answer any questions you may have at that time.
