Female Sexual Dysfunction

Physical and Psychological Causes of Female Sexual Dysfunction

Women's sexual health is a very complex matter. Millions of women experience some form of sexual difficulties. In fact, every study that has researched both male and female sexual dysfunction has found more women with disorders than men.

Most female patients fall into four categories:

  • Orgasm Disorders
  • Lack of Desire
  • Lack of Arousal
  • Pain During Sexual Activity

When to Seek Help

Sexual difficulties may occur during intercourse with a partner, but also during self-stimulation (masturbation), fondling or oral sex. Sometimes a problem is only temporary and goes away after time. However, if it becomes really frustrating and you are unable to overcome the problem on your own, you should consider talking to a physician. If you experience physical pain or discomfort whenever you think it is time, we recommend consulting with a physician immediately. Take our online female sexual dysfunction test to discover if you are experiencing any symptoms.

Possible Causes of Pain During Sexual Activity

Pain during or after sexual activity, also known as dyspareunia, can be caused by the fact that the vagina is not well lubricated. Other conditions such as pregnancy, menopause or chronic illness can temporarily cause sexual disorders including pain during sex.

Vaginismus is another cause of pain during sex. This is a spasm of the pubic muscles and lower vagina. It makes entering the vagina painful.
